About the Free Tutoring program
Project EASE (Educational Acceleration Systems Enhancement) is up and running and we are excited about the support, assistance, and opportunity that our youth in Overtown are getting to help them fulfill their educational goals.
Miami-Dade County School District has begun its transition to remote online instruction and has urged parents who don’t have access to the Internet to sign up for free Comcast Internet service. The school district is also distributing devices to enable our children to access online resources.
Distance learning has become a part of the new reality, and as school officials, students and parents can attest, the process can be challenging and frustrating.
As parents and students in the Overtown area and Miami Dade School system settle into the new norm students and families are looking for structured and successful learning spaces. In addition parents and students are seeking programs that ensure students stay curious and on-track with their learning.
Our Program is designed to achieve the following for the students that participate in our virtual learning tutoring sessions
Creating A Daily Routine
Providing a consistent schedule of learning through regularly scheduled sessions.
Establish Expectations For Learning
Take ownership of daily learning experiences. Agree to goals, which can be long or short term.
Create A Comfortable Learning Environment
Pairing every student with the best tutors for the critical areas of education concentration provides the ideal learning environment.
Planned Daily Check-ins
Daily check-ins establish accountability for learning with your child. During these times, ask your child how he/she is doing, what they need help with and what he/she accomplished. We also provide an easy way to upload assignment documents.
Provide Opportunities For Enjoyment
Planning purposeful opportunities for your child to learn and enjoy. Maybe it’s playing an educational game or simply talking about the student’s long term goals. We let your child know what they’ve done well and provide he or she incentives for meeting goals.
More About Project EASE
Early Access to Success in Education (Project EASE) was designed to increase the frequency and quality of language interactions through book-centered activities and to give parents information about and opportunities for engagement in their children's developing literacy abilities. Measures of home literacy support were collected from parents and a battery of language and literacy tests were administered to intervention and comparison children prior to the intervention and at its conclusion. Children whose families engaged in the at-school and at-home activities made significantly greater gains in language scores as measured on subtests of vocabulary, story comprehension, and sequencing in story-telling than comparison children. The greatest gains were found in those low-achieving students who started out with low language skills at pretest and strong home literacy support. What material or specific items does a student need before each session?
Students need to come prepared with an assignment they require assistance to complete.
How can students send submit their assignments to their assigned tutor?
Prior to the session they can take a picture of the assignment and upload it here, or they could simply share their screen within the Zoom Platform.
Who will be working with my child during the session?
Once being admitted by the host, the student will be paired with a Teacher. Dependent on the volume for the day. The session may be a group and/or a one-on-one session within the ZOOM Platform.
