The Overtown Children and Youth Coalition's Laptop Scholarship program is a new initiative designed to help students of all ages who might otherwise not have access to the proper technology needed for academic success.  The ongoing stress of the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this long-standing issue of the “digital divide”, where certain communities might not have access to items essential for education. Owning a laptop is no longer a luxury, it is a minimum requirement for living in the new digital age. Overtown Children and Youth Coalition is working to remedy this issue by creating a laptop scholarship program where students from Pre-K to College can apply to receive a laptop the student can own for life.

Currently invitations are being extended to the following groups:

  1. Present/Past OCYC Youth Commissioners
  2. Direct referrals from Organizations operating within Overtown
  3. Residents of the Overtown Community

Application Process*:

  1. Complete the online application form.
  2. Completed applications will be reviewed by Overtown Children and Youth Coalition's Team and Accountability Committee.
  3. Awardees will be contacted by Overtown Children and Youth Coalition's Team to arrange delivery of the laptops and pertinent information.

Important Dates:

  1. The first round of applications will be open from August 14 - October 31st
  2. Awarded applications will be notified via phone or email on or before October 31st.

Students must be between 5-24 years of age to qualify for the Laptop Scholarship Program.
(Do not include computers borrowed from the local school district or outside agencies)
