August 2024 OCYC Laptop Scholarship Program Award Ceremony
August 7, 2024
Everyone's a winner!
OCYC awarded 50 Overtown students new Dell laptops with Microsoft Office 365 licenses, bringing the total to 275 since the program began in 2021. We received 156 applications and thank all for their submissions. The students' essays share their needs for laptops to help them with schoolwork and to provide access to the Internet. After much consideration, we selected these 50 students as awardees. We are proud of them for their achievements and their desire to learn more!
I'm pretty excited because in my school there are not enough computers to give to every student. So, by getting this laptop it will help solve this problem for me.

Empowering Futures: Celebrating Students' Milestones with OCYC's Laptop Distribution Ceremony
The awardees' excitement filled the room as they received their laptops from State Representative Ashley Gantt, Anthony L. Robinson, OCYC Executive Director, and from Dr. Saliha Nelson, OCYC Board Chair. Parents, guardians, and siblings expressed their pride with shouts of joy as they congratulated the awardees.
Jessica needed a laptop since her broke last year. It's amazing she received a new one because it's hard with more than one child in the house and having to choose who gets a laptop.

Empowering Futures: Bridging the Digital Divide for Overtown Youth
Since 2021, OCYC awarded 275 laptops to youth with the goal to reach 5,000 households over the next 5 years. This year, Mayor of Miami Francis Suarez sponsored 50 Dell laptops. We appreciate his support since OCYC wants to ensure children and youth enrolled in Overtown schools and youth programs have the technology tools they need to succeed in their educational goals.
