Give Miami Day 2021

We are excited, once again, to be participating in The Miami Foundation Give Miami Day fundraising event (GMD 2021). This is Overtown Children & Youth Coalition’s fifth year partnering with The Miami Foundation and other non-profit organizations in this initiative. This year our fundraising campaign is focused on driving funds for a number of important and essential community programs. Special focus is being placed on our Laptop Scholarship program. Â
Our Laptop Scholarship program is providing laptops and computing resources for the children and youth that are based in the Overtown community or participating in programs provided by our coalition members and affiliates. Our program seeks to provide 5,000 students with laptops, access to the internet, and training opportunities. We must bridge the gap in the Digital Divide and with your help, we will continue to make a positive impact on those we serve.
The official date of GMD 2021 is November 18, 2021. The event will start at midnight and end at 11:59 pm on the same day. We have 24 hours to raise $30,000, which is our fundraising goal this year. We will also be participating in the early-bird campaign drive on November 15, 2021 (see details below).
Our program is providing essential computing resources to many unserved communities. A computer for every child is not just a concept. A computer and access to basic computer resources such as the internet is a necessitating aspect for the daily life of a student. Programs like ours ensure the digital divide is addressed and not imposing limits on the children and youth in Miami Dade County. Our program is funded through grants and donations. It is an ongoing effort to raise funds. Opportunities like the one The Miami Foundation makes available through the Give Miami Day campaign drive help us reach our fundraising goals for initiatives such as our Laptop Scholarship program.
Why donate to the Laptop Scholarship program initiative?
This initiative has been funded through a grant, coalition members, families, and volunteerism. Our effort has only begun and we have more plans in store for your laptop recipients. We need to keep the momentum going for the children and youth of Overtown. We will reward over 5000 laptops over the next 5 years.
Many of the recipients of our scholarship program are first-time owners of a computer device. As a result, training is essential for the continued success of the program and the growth and future of the children and youth we strive to support.
Your donation will be used to:
- Secure training resources
- Acquire software programs and licenses
- Procure Awards, Badges, and Tangibles items to incentivize our recipients to continue their computing education and usage
- Reward students reaching specific milestones with peripheral devices (e.g thumb drives, printers, drawing tables, microphones, additional monitors)

There will be two opportunities for you to participate directly with the Give Miami Day campaign.
Option 1
An early-bird donation drive on November 15, 2021, followed by the actual Give Miami Day event and fundraising drive on November 18, 2021.
Connecting with you on the day before and day of the events will be critical and as a result, we are asking for your contact information to ensure we can send you email, and SMS alerts that will provide you with links to the official GMD 2021 donation pages. Option 2
We are able to submit your donations on your behalf to our campaign. As a result, you can make your pledge now and we will submit this pledge on the actual days of the campaign drive. We are providing this opportunity to those that either will be unavailable to participate on the live event days or for those who are ready to get us started in our fundraising efforts now.

About GMD 2021
Give Miami Day is an annual giving movement uniting nonprofits to celebrate and increase generosity in Greater Miami through online giving that occurs during a 24 hour period. Over the past decade, Give Miami Day, hosted by The Miami Foundation, has raised more than $80 million for local causes.
