Rooted in Overtown Documentary
A Legacy Still Being Written
Overtown is more than a place — it’s a living testament to resilience, culture, and the enduring power of community. For decades, the neighborhood has shaped the lives of generations of children and families who call it home. Now, the Overtown Children and Youth Coalition (OCYC) invites you to witness that story told with honesty, warmth, and purpose.
“Overtown is more than a place — it’s a legacy still being written.”
Rooted in Overtown: The Power of One Future is a short documentary that captures the heart of OCYC’s collective work — the partnerships forged, the programs that sustain young lives, and the community members who show up every single day. It’s a film about what it means to invest in a child’s future and what happens when an entire neighborhood decides to do it together.
The film made its debut at the historic Clyde Killens Pool Hall on November 12, bringing together partners, advocates, and community leaders for an evening of storytelling, reflection, and recommitment. Attendees heard partner highlights, experienced the documentary’s premiere, and joined in a collective pledge moment — a powerful send-off just ahead of Give Miami Day.
As OCYC continues to fuel programs for children and youth across Overtown, this documentary stands as both a celebration of what has been built and a call to action for what’s still ahead.
